Ai Games – The Future of Video Games

AI is transforming how video games are made, allowing smaller teams to compete with larger studios by speeding up the production process and reducing costs. It’s also enhancing gameplay by making it smarter, more immersive and personalised. But this comes with its own set of challenges, such as privacy and fairness. Using a variety of different technologies and techniques, AI can make NPCs feel more realistic, enhance immersion in the game world and even act autonomously. These methods include decision trees, behavioural simulations, randomness generators and more.

AI Voice Acting: The Future of Game Dialogue

Gen AI takes this to the next level, creating “living games” where AI changes and adapts based on player behaviour. This allows for hugely nonlinear story development that can be reimagined over time.

However, generative AI still has some way to go before it can match the creativity of human writers. Xalavier Nelson Jr, lead designer at independent studio Strange Scaffold, says that while an AI could write “an excellent story,” it would be difficult to replace the nuances of emotion and character that come from a high-concept, well-written script.

Despite this, there are a lot of exciting new developments with gaming AI. Tech giant Microsoft recently unveiled a generative AI game design tool called Muse, which supposedly uses machine learning to create playable videogames from scratch. Previously, Google’s GameNGen AI created a playable version of Doom without the need for a game engine. But both Muse and GameNGen suffer from notable limitations.
